Catching a Concert in L.A.

Even though there’s usually a lot going on at Pomona (plays, orchestra performances, lectures, etc.), Southern California has many places to visit and things to do. Recently, my friends and I drove to the Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood to watch one of my favorite artists in concert, Tkay Maidza!

While Tkay Maidza isn’t a household name, she was playing one of a handful of shows in Los Angeles. To get to the venue, we borrowed our friend John’s van, and our friend Clara offered to drive. On the way there, we got ready, talked, and had a lot of fun. The drive there was one of the best parts of the night (minus the gas prices).

Despite some technical difficulties, I thought the performance was great, and we all had a good time.

After the concert, we headed to a nearby sushi restaurant. My friends and I shared edamame and egg rolls; I got spicy tuna rolls as an entree. Everything was delicious, needless to say.

Even though it wasn’t very late, once we were done eating, we headed back to Pomona’s campus to get our friend Dalia home. She had a job interview early in the morning, so she had to go to sleep (side note: she got the job!). As soon as we got in the car, we (minus the driver) passed out from a long night in West Hollywood.

One of the best parts of being a Pomona student is the access to Los Angeles and the greater Southern California area. The options for activities are endless, and I have loved exploring the area with friends. I’m excited to have even more adventures–this weekend, we’re planning on going to the Hippo Campus concert in downtown Pomona at the Fox Theater: I can’t wait!
