Five Exciting Discoveries I Made This Summer

As per my newfound resolution to explore new places, around home and elsewhere, the following are five discoveries I made this summer in picture form.  I hope to be able to follow this up with exciting photos of places in Claremont that I also discover this year!

1. Two cool museums in Worcester, Massachusetts:

My siblings and I about to zipline at the Ecoterrium, an indoor and outdoor hands-on science and environmental discovery museum.
My brother trying on a helmet at the Armory Museum, which holds armor and weapons from various lands and eras.

2. Two amazing bookstores in So Cal (I like to buy my books in person!)

At Vroman’s Bookstore in Pasadena with friend and fellow Sagehen–one of the oldest bookstores in Southern California.

The second bookstore is called The Last Bookstore and is in Downtown LA.  Awesome books, beautiful interior, and great prices!  I sound like an ad.

3. LA Family Housing

A book made by one of the students.

Another friend and fellow Pomonian introduced me to LA Family Housing, a place for families when they have nowhere else to go.  We ran a three session book workshop for some of the kids.  A truly inspiring experience.

4. The Spanish Village Art Center

I’d been to Balboa Park in San Diego before, but I’d never been here!  It is a really cool little center of crafts and art (rather touristy but cute) with very colorful tiles.

5. Hole-in-the-wall places to eat!

An excellent pho place right around the corner from my house! My friend in the photo introduced it to me.

I love discovering places like these.  Some friends and I also went to an adorable little brunch place in the middle of an unassuming strip of stores.  It was really good and they even had fresh fruit!  I was duly impressed.
