White Fort

Today, instead of having the usual seminar-style class that’s typical of ID1, I had to go to Lyman Hall to hear the “Russian Soul Music” duo, White Fort.

Of course, anything that gets you out of class is great, I guess.

The concert was a nice show of what I think was guitar and electric violin.

White Fort (Two Siberians, Белый Острог) is currently on tour in the US, and had just performed for Scripps the day before their concert in Lyman. The duo recently performed in New York and Oregon; they will soon make appearances in Washington.

I noticed that the other ID1 classes there had to do with math, music, and art, and that mine was there probably just because of the Russian associations between the act and War and Peace.

After the show, a Q&A session followed. Students and faculty asked the duo questions ranging from their musical background and what is so “Russian” about their style, to why one had an electric violin as opposed to an acoustic one.

In Thatcher outside the hall, students had the opportunity to purchase some of White Fort’s CDs.

After the performance, the duo said they’d go to the Russian table at Oldernborg for lunch and conversation “pa-russki.”

Now to do the 30-page reading assignment for Tuesday’s ID1 class.
